Thursday Night Stammtisch in the Ratskeller

Open to the Public Every Thursday Evening: 6:30-11pm

The BSV's Ratskeller will be open to the public every Thursday evening in July from 6:30-11pm.

For German speakers, or students in our adult classes looking to practice, there will be a dedicated table for German-speaking individuals. There is also a "learn to play Skat" table for anyone looking to learn this traditional German card game. Or just come to enjoy a cold beverage and relax on the Sonnendeck!

Please note: no food will be available for purchase, but guests are welcome to bring their own meals or snacks.

Introducing: The BSV Bergwanderer Hiking Group!

The BSV's Athletics Committee is excited to announce the addition of the Bergwanderer hiking group! The group is open to any outdoors-loving BSV members who want to participate in hikes and other outdoor-focused outings throughout the region.

Any BSV member looking to get involved can join the Facebook group (link here or below) to stay up to date on all of the upcoming initiatives.

Next hike: Saturday, July 8th at Mount Wachusett

Glenn MacPherson has scheduled a fairly low-impact hike up Mount Wachusett on Saturday 7/8, starting at 9AM.

Richard Yanco is also planning to cook enough brats at home for everyone hiking, then drive the brats up to the summit while they’re still hot. Any hiking-interested BSV members who want to drive up the mountain and skip the hike are also welcome to join.

If any members are interested, they should RSVP with Glenn (cumberland30@hotmail.com) so we can have an accurate headcount.

Monthly Games Night in the Ratskeller

Friday, July 7th | 7PM

Games Night returns to the Ratskeller on Friday, July 7th beginning at 7pm. Bring your favorite board or card game or come compete in the monthly Skat Meister tournament (for experienced Skat players only).

All are welcome and the Ratskeller will be open to both members and non-members. The full bar selections will be available, but this is a potluck-style event and guests are invited to bring their own food/snacks to share.

Please note: for any non-Skat-playing gamers who will be attending, please check with the Skat organizers as to where to sit. Some of the Ratskeller tables are reserved specifically for the monthly Skatmeister tournament.

CLUB NEWS AND PROMOS

BSV Adult German Language School: 2023-2024 School Year Registration Now Open!

The BSV's "Thursday School" provides a great opportunity for adults to learn German in a fun and relaxing environment, while developing great friendships with Members and non-Members alike!

The Top Reasons to Learn German!

#1 - German is easier to learn than you think.....

Since German and some English share the same root, thousands of German words are closely related. Wasser = water, Vater = father, kommen = to come. And then you have angst, kindergarten and schadenfreude which have the same meaning in both languages!

#2 - German is the second most-spoken language in Europe…

Are you planning on a trip to Europe? Do you work for a company which does business in Germany, Austria or Switzerland?? Consider taking a class. Germans love people who communicate in German - mistakes and all!

We offer class levels for true beginners through advanced German speakers. The school's staff can always help with placement and encourage movement up/down a level after the school year has started. Click below to visit the Adult Language School's website to learn more or to register.
